After securing her first television role as Lala in BBC Scotland’s period drama series “The Lost Tribe” with Bill Paterson and Miriam Margolyes, Julia went on to play many different drama roles on the small screen, including Babs Palmer in the ITV drama series “Ladies In Charge”.

She also appeared as a glamorous film star in Granada TV’s “The Bretts”, and as Lord Reith’s personal secretary Jo Stanley in “Reith” for the BBC starring Tom Fleming.

She had a regular part in the BBC drama series “Chain” starring Peter Capaldi and Robert Pugh, and appeared alongside Cheryl Campbell in “Winter Harvest”.

She returned to work after the birth of her first child in an episode of “Boon”, and has since been seen in “Peak Practice”, “Murphy’s Law”, “Murder in Suburbia”, “Doctors” and the award winning children’s drama “Wipe Out”.

Most recently, Julia played Nicholas Hoult’s mother in the ITV children’s series “Star”, and became a semi regular part in “Casualty” as Woody’s Mum Caroline Joyner until Woody was killed off in the Holby City/Casualty joint Christmas Special!




Julia’s comedy appearances on television include 8 series of “2 Point 4 Children” for the BBC; 4 series of “Who Dares Wins” for Channel 4; 2 series of “Dad” with George Cole and Kevin McNally; and 2 series of “The Refuge” by Sue Townsend and Carole Hayman.

She also made guest appearances in, among others, “Trevor’s World of Sport”; “Haggard”; “The Upper Hand”; “The Lenny Henry Show”; “The Good Sex Guide”; and a special satirical celebration of 10 years of Margaret Thatcher’s incumbency as Prime Minister called “Ten Glorious Years” on BBC 1 as devised and directed by Paul Jackson.

Most recently Julia was reunited with Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin when they invited her to play the over bearing mother of a young chess player in their enormously successful series “Outnumbered”.

She has also appeared as herself on the Alan Titchmarsh Show, two episodes of Celebrity Squares and a New Year’s Eve special Come Dancing with Jools Holland.
